My reports are prepared using the Uniform Building Inspection ReportTM form by TWI Systems. I have found this product to be the most thorough means available for reporting the results of a real estate inspection.
In addition to typically 10-30 findings pages, the report is presented in a 3-ring binder which includes close to 200 pages of cross-referenced material pertinent to the findings of my inspection. This reference material explains typical conditions found in residential and commercial buildings and offers recommendations on how corrections can be made. If the property owners choose to undertake repairs and/or maintenance themselves, this reference material guides them through the processes. Where professional help is indicated, the report directs them to qualified specialists.
